VBS Mission Projects

Since we are doing a joint Vacation Bible School this year with Holy Trinity, we thought we would try something a little different then in the past few years. We have picked not one, but two different mission projects. The two missions are Dragonfly Academy in Canton, Ohio and Holy Trinity’s food pantry. During the week of VBS, we will be asking the children to bring in a different canned good or non-perishable item each day. We will have more information on what items are needed closer to that time.

Dragonfly Academy was founded in 2006 by Brianne Nightingale. They specialize in teaching people ages 3-22 years with both mild to severe autism. Besides teaching traditional academics, Dragonfly Academy also offers occupation therapy, physical therapy, art therapy, speech and language therapy, adaptive physical education, sensory integration

therapy, relaxation therapy, and hippo therapy (therapy using horses’ movement to improve functional skills). Their mission: “Dragonfly believes that student learning comes alive through interactive, hands-on, multi-sensory instruction in a motivating environment. At Dragonfly, students are given the opportunity to achieve their fullest potential, prepare for post-secondary opportunities, and experience success in the work place.” Dragonfly helps its students to become more successful both intellectually and socially.

This is an incredible opportunity for these children, but it comes with a price tag that many families can’t afford. I’m sure many of your lives have been touched by an autistic child, and know how amazing and special they are!!! They all deserve to have an opportunity like this. Our goal this year is to raise $1,500, which will go toward a child’s tuition. Each year we pick a little incentive to help us meet our goal, and this year is no different. I don’t know who or where yet, but at the closing ceremony of our Power Lab VBS someone could be SLIMED if the $1,500 goal is met! I’m sure you won’t want to miss that one!
